About the Library
The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library comprises a major collection of archival records, books and memorabilia related to the Hawke era. It is available to users as a unique resource for political and social research and for reference and information purposes. The collection also includes two selected political colleagues from the Hawke era, South Australian Senator Rosemary Crowley and member for Adelaide, Chris Hurford.
The role and objectives of the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library are to:
- describe and manage a unique collection of scholarly and research materials and memorabilia
- provide research services and access to the Library's resources to historians, researchers, students and the general community
- interpret and highlight themes from the Hawke era through public exhibitions, educational displays and online presentations
- foster research and publication to further raise the profile and significance of the Hawke era
Access
The Library
The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library is located at the City West Campus in H5-05, Level 5 of the Hawke Building - 50-60 North Terrace, Adelaide.
The Library is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10.00am - 4.00pm including the use of study room H5-07 which may be booked via the online booking page at room/laptop bookings.
At all other times access and use of the research and archival facilities will be by appointment with the Librarian.
Most material is available for use in the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library under supervision. Some access restrictions apply.
Identified fragile items, items of significant historical and/or commercial value and some artworks will only be available by prior arrangement.
Please note that it may not always be possible to retrieve some archival items on the same day that they are requested and requestors may be asked to return the following working day to access the items.
Locating items in the collection
You can search the University of South Australia Library Catalogue (opens in new window) to find books, journals, DVDs and videos and other materials.
The Archival Database (opens in new window) contains a growing range of digitised original documents, speeches, photographs and audio from the Hawke era. The database can be searched using various fields including keywords.
Items in the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library collection are not for loan.
Photocopying is permitted with permission of the Librarian and according to copyright legislation.
