The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library was established by the University of South Australia in December 1997 as an integral component of the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre. The Centre honours Bob Hawke, a third generation South Australian and one of the 20th century's most notable Prime Ministers.
