Reliability: Does the information come from an 'authoritative source'?


This refers to how the information source is published, and the extent to which it may have been edited and revised before it was published.

For example, information in popular magazines and newspapers is likely to have less academic credibility than information in refereed journals and research reports.

So, you need to ask

  • who published the source?
  • how thoroughly has the information been edited or reviewed?
