Manage your search results
There are different ways to manage your search results depending on the database or search engine you are searching. Some of the more common methods include:
- printing
- emailing
- saving to a flash drive
- setting up a RefWorks or EndNote library to export and save your references, for more information visit our Manage your references module of Infogate
Emailing or saving your results are two quick strategies to help manage your references. You have a record of all the bibliographic details so that you can reference appropriately, and can also keep track of your search results. Keep the information until you have submitted your assignment, in case you have to refer back to any of the details.
Some databases also allow you to format your references as part of emailing or saving your results. Although you will not find a UniSA Harvard referencing style listed as an option, you may be able to select a Harvard style.
Here are some examples:
Ebsco databases
- run your search, and select your references using Add to folder
- open the Folder, and tick the references you want to keep or Select/deselect all
- choose the email or save as file option. In the right hand side of the box, select the Citation format option, then Chicago-Turabian Author-Date or APA
- edit the file as required, making sure your bibliography is now in the UniSA Harvard style
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) databases
- run your search, then select the references you want to keep
- select save, print, email
- choose a document format and bibliographic style (Harvard or APA), then Create
- the QuikBib screen will appear. Open or save the file, which you can then edit as required
Scopus
- run your search then select the references you want to keep
- from the Output tab select the Bibliography option
- select the format (MS Word, html, text), and the style (Harvard or APA) then Create
- the QuikBib screen will appear. Open or save the file, which you can then edit as required
You would need to check your bibliography against the appropriate Referencing guide to make any amendments required. Alternatively, add a note
to your assignment stating that:
"This Reference list has been compiled using the RefWorks (or EndNote or Quikbib
as applicable) version of the Harvard author-date system". (Note taken from page
5 of the Referencing using the Harvard Author-Date System (PDF 146kb, opens in new window).
A useful way to manually keep track of your references is to use a reading log (Word document 37kb, opens in new window).
