Search Strategies : Truncation

Truncation allows you to search the "root" or "stem" form of a word with all its different endings.

Using truncation will broaden your search. For example,

nurs*     will retrive

             nurse

             nurses

             nursing

BUT      will also retrive

             nursery

             nurseries

Databases and search engines use different symbols to truncate. For example:
             nurs*

             nurs?

             nurs!

             nurs#

             nurs$

Check database/search engine Help to find the correct truncation symbol or see the Truncation / Wildcard / Phrase searching guide.
