Journals: Types of journals


There are different types of journals. Some of the most common are described below:

Type Characteristics Example
Academic or scholarly
  • contain articles written by academics and researchers in a discipline
  • can be peer reviewed/refereed

Trade
  • content is industry, profession or trade based
  • may contain short articles on new products or services in a particular trade, industry or profession

Current affairs, popular culture
  • content is based on current affairs, business news, or popular culture (for example, newspapers, music, fashion, cooking, women's magazines)
