Journals: Locating journals

Finding the journal in the catalogue

  • go to the Library Catalogue
  • type the name of the journal in the Search for box
  • select the option 'Journal title' in the Search in menu

If the Library holds the journal it may be available as a printed copy or an electronic (ejournal) copy.

For print journals:

  • the Location shows which campus holds this journal
  • The Call number will help you to find the journal on the Library shelves
  • The Summary holdings show the range of issues available in the Library.

For electronic journals:

  • the Location confirms that this journal is available electronically
  • the Notes field advises of any access restrictions. If you are unable to find the full text of a recent article it may be due to a publisher restriction
  • the Access field links you to the database or web site where the journal is available
  • The Summary holdings show the range of issues available electronically

If you have a topic and want to find journal articles about that topic, then use the Library databases. Identify the appropriate database for your topic area using the Database subjects list.
