Interlibrary Loans and Document Delivery

What can I request and how do I do it?

Eligible UniSA staff and students can request:

Books, Conference Papers, Reports and Patents

  • These materials are available through interlibrary loan with the exception of very old or rare titles, or reference books. The loan period varies but is generally 4 weeks. Some items may be for in-library use only and books may be recalled at any time. These items may take 1-4 weeks to be supplied and will be sent to the Service Desk of your nominated campus for you to collect. You will be advised by email when your item is ready for collection. These items may be returned by placing them in the return chute at any Campus Library. It is important that books borrowed on interlibrary loan are returned by the due date displayed on the front of the item, if you need to renew a loan please contact us.

Journal articles

  • Journal articles are available as PDF files. Under the provisions of Copyright Law of Australia 1968, a maximum of one article may be requested from a given volume or issue unless the articles are part of a themed issue or are on a specific topic. Articles will be electronically delivered to your UniSA email accounts (more information). These items may take up to 1 week to supply. If you require a copy of a journal article which is held at another UniSA campus library but not your home campus, please use the Intercampus Document Delivery Service.

Readings for use in a print or electronic book of course materials

  • Articles to be included in print readings or ereadings need to be from a print source and compliant with Australian Copyright Law. Articles will be electronically delivered to your UniSA email accounts (more information). These items may takeĀ 1-2 weeks to supply.

Theses

  • All theses, whether Australian or Overseas, will be purchased. Before placing an Interlibrary Loan request, please check the UniSA Research Archive (opens in new window) for UniSA theses and the Australian Digital Theses Program (opens in new window) for Australian theses. You will be advised by email when the thesis is available. An electronic version will be obtained in preference to print. These items may take up to 3 weeks to be supplied.

Audiovisual material

  • Films, DVDs and microform may be obtained through interlibrary loan. Not all libraries will lend items from their audiovisual collection and the loan period will be shorter than for a book loan. These items may take 1-4 weeks to be supplied and will be sent to the Service Desk of your nominated campus for you to collect. These items may be returned by placing them in the return chute at any Campus Library. It is important that AV materials borrowed on interlibrary loan are returned by the due date displayed on the front of the item; if you need to renew a loan please contact us.
  • Microfiche and microfilm readers are located at each campus. If you need to print you can use the microfiche or microfilm printers located at the Magill, City East and Mawson Lakes campus libraries.

Making an Interlibrary Loan request

The Interlibrary Loan Request form enables you to place new ILL requests and manage existing ones.

Log on using your UniSA username ID and password to make a request.

To place a request:

  • Search SUMMON (opens in new window) and the Library Catalogue (opens in new window) as the item may already be part of the Library Collection
  • If the title is not held, complete a separate interlibrary loan form for each item that you require. Please use the correct form for the type of request or the request will be delayed while the correct form is completed
  • Complete all sections of the form and include all possible bibliographical information that will enable us to locate the item e.g. author, title, journal title, place of publication, date etc
  • If you are sourcing readings that are required to be from a print source, please add (Print Source Only) at the end of the title or author field

If we are unable to fill your request, you will be advised. This may be because the item is either already held by UniSA Library, unable to be located using the detail provided or not available.
