UniSA Library has two bookable rooms equipped with SMART boards, one at Magill Library (A2-09) and one at Mawson Lakes Library (C2-13).

The interactive whiteboard

The SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard (IWB). You can control computer applications directly from the screen using either the pen tools provided or your hands. The board can also be used as a regular projector screen.

IWBs are used extensively in primary and secondary education. IWBs can enhance the learning and teaching experience through:

  • Creating new opportunities for communication in the classroom
  • Enabling easy annotation of resources
  • Enabling a significant reduction in teacher workload as users can save, print and re-use board work, and share resources with other educators
  • Providing opportunities for students to “perform” to class
  • Catering for different learning styles - e.g. kinaesthetic, visual

IWBs are also used in a variety of other contexts e.g. professional sports coaching and government working groups.

Notebook software

While you can use a variety of applications with the SMART Board, Notebook software is specifically designed for use with the board. The software is targeted at helping you to create, deliver and manage interactive lessons. Use Notebook to take advantage of a broad variety of tools and access collections of images, backgrounds, dynamic Flash files, video and audio content, country-specific lesson activities and curriculum standards and resources.

Notebook is available on the computers in A2-09 and C2-13 as well as student computers in the Magill and Mawson Lakes libraries. It can also be freely downloaded for use on other computers by UniSA staff and students. Details will soon be provided on the ISTS pages "Work at home" software for students for students and "Work at home" software for staff (until then ask at the Service Desk).

To open Notebook from the SMART Board rooms, go to Start > SMART Technologies > Notebook Software > Notebook Software 10

For more information on using Notebook consult the guides in your SMART Board pack or the resources below.
