Information Literacy
Library Policy No 1
Advances in information technology and the unprecedented growth in information of all kinds have contributed to an increasingly complex information environment. These developments have directly influenced the knowledge and range of skills required by the University community to access, evaluate, manage, analyse, communicate and organise information.
As part of its responsibility to ensure that members of the University of South Australia community achieve information literacy, the University Library will:
- work with academic administrators and Divisions to ensure that Information Literacy Programs are incorporated into University program curricular as a University requirement so that graduates of the University are equipped to deal with the modern information environment
- promote Information Literacy as the key competency for lifelong learning, as a critical outcome for all University of South Australia graduates and as a learning process that enhances the teaching, learning and research mission of the University of South Australia
- develop Information Literacy in association with universities of the Australian Technology Network Universities (ATN)
- provide equitable opportunities and flexible resources to cultivate Information Literacy understandings in all University of South Australia students, regardless of mode of study
- evaluate Information Literacy initiatives in terms of students' learning outcomes, curriculum structure and assignments
- facilitate appropriate professional staff development opportunities for all stakeholders to enable them to consider teaching-learning strategies underpinned by Information Literacy considerations.
