Archival collections
The collections contain unpublished papers and other
records. The major part of the collection consists of original documents
such as private papers and official documents not deemed Commonwealth or State records. The
collections are predominantly paper based and include diaries,
letters, speeches and newspaper cuttings. They also contain
photographs, posters, sound recordings and videotapes.
Archival Database
The Archival Database (opens in new window) contains a growing range of digitised original documents, speeches, photographs and audio from the Hawke era. The database can be searched using various fields including keywords.
Collection Focus
The collection relates to those aspects of the history and political times most closely associated with the life and work of Bob Hawke including his pre- and post-ministerial career and includes
- personal papers and realia that relate to the political career and family of Bob Hawke
- personal papers and memorabilia from South Australian Senator Rosemary Crowley
- personal papers and memorabilia from Member for Adelaide, Chris Hurford who was a member of the Hawke ministry
- theses, research papers, printed works, published and unpublished official documents, ephemera, photographs and audio visual materials related to Bob Hawke and his ministry

and his government
- civics and citizenship in the Australian context
- national identity and leadership

- conflict resolution and conciliation
- youth and social justice

- the Prime Ministership as an office
Materials documenting political leadership, the parliamentary process and
the roles of the Prime Minister and Governor-General in the Australian
context, are also held.
Key Advisers, Ms Blanche d’Alpuget and Dr Joseph Feldman assist the
Library to develop the collection with oral history recordings,
transcripts and other physical and digital formats relevant to the
collection focus
