What is electronic document delivery?

Documents requested from the University of South Australia Library can be made available over the World Wide Web in a portable document format (PDF). As a result these articles can be viewed from any computer that is connected to the internet using the Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer, you can install one for free at Adobe Acrobat (opens in new window).

How does electronic document delivery work?

Requesters receiving articles using the electronic document delivery method will be notified by email, sent to their UniSA email account when the document is available.
The email message contains :
1. a PIN up to 6 digits long, containing possible alphanumeric combinations.
2. web address eg. http://ill.ml.unisa.edu.au/scripts/Ariel/ArielDoc.pl

By going to the specified web page and entering your email address and PIN, users will be shown a list of available documents. These documents can be viewed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader (opens in new window).

What will the email notification look like?

The body of the message will look like this:

Hello,

A document you have requested from the University of South Australia Library is now available for electronic retrieval.
Take note of the email address to which this notification has been sent, and the following Personal Identification Number

PIN= 9315

Click on the link: http://ill.ml.unisa.edu.au/scripts/Ariel/ArielDoc.pl and follow the instructions to access your doc

 

Do I need to be on campus to view my delivered documents?

No, as long as you know your UniSA email address and PIN, you can view and print your document from any computer with an internet connection.

I've lost the email with all the information I needed to access the document.

Contact the department that sent you the document.

Where do I locate my PIN?

You will locate your PIN in the email that informed you of your documents availability. Your PIN is possibly and up to 6 alphanumeric characters long.

Error message " You have entered an incorrect pin or email address "

Check your PIN. Your PIN is enclosed in the email that informed you of your documents availability.
Check your email address. All notifications are sent to your UniSA email address.

How long will it take to download my document?

This will vary depending on the type of connection to the internet you are using and the size of the file. Using dial up access using a modem can be quite slow.

My document has disappeared?

You may have viewed the document too many times and it has been automatically made unavailable or it has been 2 weeks since the email was sent.Contact the department that sent the document as soon as possible. To do this, either reply to the original email notification or phone the relevant department ( phone numbers are listed in the email )

I can't open my document, what should I do?

I've received some more documents. Do I need a new PIN?

Being a multi campus University, documents sent from other campuses will have a different PIN on the same email address. Make sure you use the PIN enclosed in the email notification for that particular document.

Some pages appear upside down when I view them in Adobe Acrobat. Is there a way to rotate them in Adobe?

Some pages may be upside down depending on the size of the original material, scanning method used, the type of scanner and unchecked work. If you need to read the pages before you print them out, Adobe Acrobat has two buttons on the toolbar that can be used to rotate the image.

When I print my document, only parts of it prints out. How can I print the entire document?

Try printing only a few pages at a time. Click the printer icon in the Adobe Acrobat Reader window. A printer dialog box opens. Change the page range printing from "all", ( the entire document ) to just "pages from".
For example, now type in print pages 4-6. When the pages finish printing, repeat the above steps and print the next three pages(7-9).

Can I save the document to disk?

You may view, print and/or download contents from these documents provided such use is for your University studies, teaching or research and does not amount to or result in commercial distribution or plagiarism
You can save the document two ways.

Either way a File Save Dialog box opens. Type in a sensible name for the file. The file extension for the filename must be .pdf or you will not be able to open it later.
