Introduction
This Assignment Help web page is a guide to finding information for your assignments using the Library's databases, catalogue and website.
UniSA Library ITEE First Year workshop
The ITEE First Year workshop is a guide to using the Library's website, together with a strategy for searching the catalogue, databases and the internet to find books, journal articles and other documents for your assignments.
Library catalogue
The catalogue (opens in new window) contains information about books, journals and other resources and is essential in any search for information. For information on searching the catalogue see General help - catalogue.
Databases
In the Library, databases are indexes of literature and help you find references and citations to journal articles, conference proceedings and reports.
Key databases for Defence Systems Engineering
- Database titles - Compendex, INSPEC, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Scopus
- Database subjects - Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Systems engineering
For more information on databases see
Topic Guides
Library topic guides are good starting points for finding resources in specific subject areas. Topic guides have links to electronic and print resources, using the catalogue, searching databases for journals articles, and websites.
Locating Resources
When you have obtained references or citations from a database and the full text of the article is not available in that database:
- use the Find It button if available
- check the Library catalogue (opens in new window)to see if the issue of the journal or the conference proceedings are available online in another database or in print in the UniSA Library. For information on searching the catalogue see General help - catalogue
- search other library catalogues, such as the University of Adelaide, Flinders University or a library to which you have access
Managing References
- Referencing, or citing, is the practice of acknowledging sources of information and ideas that you have used in assignments. Correct referencing is essential in order to avoid plagiarism
- There is bibliographic management software available to assist in storing your references and creating a bibliography
- See the Managing references website for more detailed information
