The following is a checklist of 10 actions to help Higher Degree by Research students utilise Library resources
Make an appointment to meet your Academic Library Services team. Each Academic Division and research concentration of the University has a designated team of librarians who can assist you finding Library resources and direct you to services to support your research. Offshore, external and remote researchers should contact the Off Campus Library Service for details of services available
Keep your student ID card with you at all times. This becomes your Library card for borrowing and for printing and photocopying at any UniSA campus Library. Use it to borrow from other institutions, including the 2 other universities in South Australia
Become familiar with the features of the Library home page. The research pillar links you to an extensive range of services
Access databases from your office or home to find references particularly journal articles on your research topic. Most services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your Academic Library Services team can recommend databases for your research
Always check the Catalogue (opens in new window) to see if resources are held by our Library. Our collection includes print and electronic books, theses, research proposals, journals, audio-visual materials and databases. Staff at the Service Desk in each Library can provide brief assistance on finding resources or you can email the Ask the Library service
Use the Interlibrary loan service to request needed resources not held by the UniSA Library
Manage references you have found by using bibliographic management software such as RefWorks or EndNote. These enable you to organise references and to create a bibliography
Attend relevant workshops from the Strategies for successful research: finding and managing information (SSR) oncampus training or select from the range of SSR online training workshops
Suggest new resources to be purchased either by contacting your Academic Library Services team or by using the electronic Book purchase request form
Keep up to date with the latest information as it is published by establishing an alerts profile through your favourite database or electronic journal. Your Academic Library Services team can assist you to create alerts
