Publishing Opportunities Database
Trial available through 31 December 2009The University of South Australia has an extended trial to EBSCO's Publishing Opportunities Database. Publishing Opportunities Database provides the most extensive listing of opportunities for professors, post-doctorates and other students interested in presenting and publishing their research papers.
Information from three distinct sources is combined and presented in a convenient, intuitive format:
- Journal Call for Papers records index – open opportunities for regularly published journals, to which content is constantly being added
- Conference Call for Papers – time-sensitive content, providing from 3,000 to 4,000 records at any given time, for an annual total of approximately 12,000 records
- Special Issue Call for Papers – time sensitive content with from 500 to 800 records available at any given time, for an annual total of approximately 2,000 records
Publishing Opportunities Database records contain vital information about:
- the publication or conference
- the scope and topics on which manuscripts are sought
- applicable deadlines for abstracts, manuscripts and final papers
- manuscript formatting requirements
- submission guidelines
- publication frequency
- contact details
Research Starters - Sociology
Trial available through 30 June 2010The University of South Australia has an extended trial to EBSCO's Research Starters for Sociology.
Research Starters offer students a starting point for their research by providing comprehensive summaries of discipline-specific topics. They describe the broad outlines of a subject, indicate its real world applications, and locate sources for researching it in greater detail. Most articles are around 3,000 words.
Key features of the database include:
- Convenient 3,000-word topic overviews
- Overview information on 500 topics parallel to course offerings at major colleges and universities, with links to key articles in associated EBSCO databases
- Content designed to be appropriate for advanced high school and two/four-year college students, public libraries and selected schools
- Study guides written by subject matter experts

The database can be selected from the EbscoHost Research Database menu by ticking the last box on the menu screen.
