University of South Australia Library would appreciate the assistance of staff and students to suggest books, journals and other resources that they believe should be added to the Library collection. Recommendations should comply with the Library's policy on purchasing resources to support teaching, learning and research.
If the Library does not hold a title that you believe would be a valuable addition to our collection, please suggest it. All requests will be considered and you will be advised if the title is purchased. The Library acquires electronic versions of resources, in preference to print, where available. There may be delays for some titles while an electronic version is sourced, so please indicate on the form if your request is urgent. Please allow 2 months for orders to be completed.
The Library acquires scholarly texts in support of the University’s teaching, learning, research and strategic directions, including books that contain the scholarly output of University staff and students. If you have written or are aware of a text that we have not yet identified, please submit a Purchase Request Form and it will be purchased for the collection.
Students are expected to purchase their own textbooks. The Library will purchase a single copy of each course textbook and this will be available in the High Demand collection. The Library aims to acquire all book titles listed as textbooks or references in course outlines, including single copies of further reading materials.
Please request the purchase of new teaching items at least 2 months before they are required to allow time for acquisition and processing. If you wish to order course resources for the High Demand Collection, please check that these items are not already held by the Library.
The Library acquires resources in digital format. Requests to purchase CDs and DVDs may be made using the Purchase Request form. There may be restrictions on the Library purchasing some audio-visual resources (such as CD-ROMs) due to licensing or copyright issues. Requests to purchase realia (eg models, kits, games, posters, etc.) should be sent to your Division’s Academic Library team. Requests should contain vendor and/or manufacturer information, where possible.
If you become aware of a journal or database that would benefit your study or research, please let us know. To manage our subscriptions and ensure that collections are aligned with the strategic direction of the University, the Library has in place policies and evaluation criteria for the selection and retention of journals and databases. New titles suggested may be added to wishlists at the discretion of the Academic Library Team and then prioritised should funds become available.
The Library Materials Budget is reviewed annually to reflect University priorities. If additional funding becomes available, key stakeholders from each academic Division and research concentration are consulted as to their priorities for ordering. The advice of the Academic Library Service Team may be sought at any time to assist in the selection, retention or cancellation of individual journals and database subscriptions.
New titles fully funded by a Division or Research concentration can be ordered immediately.
