Lynda.com works just like video sharing sites such as YouTube. Search or browse for a topic you're interested in, pick a video, and press play. To get started, watch the course How to use Lynda.com.
Videos on Lynda.com are organised into courses. A course is a playlist of short videos, leading you through a series of related skills. The videos can be watched in sequence, skipped, replayed or individually selected, so you can concentrate on the skills you want to learn.
Some courses include exercise files, so you can work on them in your own software and follow along with the video training.
Courses may also include interactive quizzes, which allow you to assess how much you've learned from the video content.
Learning paths are collections of courses that teach skills for a career path or discipline. They give a structured path from basic skills through to advanced techniques, and allow you to measure your progress.
You can add notes to any point in any Lynda.com video. Select the Notebook tab behind the Contents list, and write your note in the box provided.
Notes are automatically saved with your user account, so you can come back to them later. You can also export the notes for a video by using the Export icon next to the note entry box.
Save and organize courses by adding them to playlists. To add a course, click on the + icon at the top of the course page or next to the course in a search result. You can choose an existing playlist from the drop-down menu, or create a new one.
View your playlists by choosing Playlists from the drop-down menu in the top right of the Lynda screen. From this screen, you can select each of your playlists. You'll see a list of the courses you've added. Select Edit playlist to work on the list. You can change the name or description of the list, and reorder, add or delete courses.
From the Playlists screen, you can also share your lists with other Lynda users. To do this, select Make public, then choose Share. You can email the list or create a link that can be included in other sites.
You can bookmark individual videos within a course, to help you find them later. To do this, find the video in the Contents list for the course, and click the bookmark icon next to the video name.
To view your list of bookmarks, use the drop-down menu in the top right of the Lynda screen, and choose Playlists, then select the Bookmarks tab. Click on a bookmark title to go straight to the video.
You can rename your bookmark or add a description or tags by choosing the edit link to the right of each bookmark, or delete an unwanted bookmark by choosing delete.
