Interlibrary Loans and Document Delivery Service

If staff or eligible students require an item not held by UniSA Library, they may request access through our Interlibrary Loans service.

UniSA Library may be able to provide resources to external institutions via Interlibrary Loans Resource Sharing.

This service is available at no cost to:

  • UniSA Staff (for postgraduate academic study and research purposes)
  • Research Degree Students
  • other approved clients by arrangement with Academic Library Services

Not eligible for the Interlibrary Loan service? Please contact your Library Services team and they may authorise your request. You will receive email advice of your eligibility to use the Interlibrary Loans Service.

For information about services for Undergraduate, Honours and Postgraduate students by Coursework see the student borrowing page.

In all cases, items will be obtained digitally in preference to physical items.

  • Books and book chapters
  • Conference papers
  • Journal articles
    • Under copyright law, a maximum of one article may be requested from a given volume or issue unless the articles are part of a themed issue or are on a specific topic

  • Reports
  • Patents
  • Theses
    • For Australian theses, check Trove before placing a request

Items can be requested on your behalf if not held by UniSA Library. You will need to complete a separate request for each item you require.

  • Access the Citation search (Interlibrary loans and document delivery) form. Choose the type of item you want to request (Article for items from journals, magazines or newspapers, or Book for other resources). Enter as much information as you can to help us locate the item, and click Submit.
  • The Library Catalogue will check to see if the item is already part of our collections. If not, you will see a message about the option to request from another library. You may need to Sign in with your UniSA account, and then select the Resource sharing request link.
  • The information you entered will be displayed for confirmation. You can select whether you would like the item delivered in Physical or Digital format. For physical delivery, please select a pickup location. Add a comment if needed, confirm that you agree with the copyright statement, and click Request to finalise your request.
  • Once submitted, you can check the status of your requests via myLibrary. You will be advised by email if we are unable to fulfil your request.

If you are not a UniSA staff or research degree student, but have authorization to use interlibrary loans, you will be unable to use the request form. Please submit your requests by emailing the Interlibrary Loans team.

Documents will be delivered in digital format (generally PDF) and when available will be emailed as an attached file to you.

For more information on electronic document delivery please contact us.

Items can be picked up from the Request shelf of the Campus Library you nominated when making the request. You must use the Self-check machines to borrow your item.

Please check your due dates by logging onto MyLibrary. If you need to renew an item, please contact us and we will discuss your request with the owning library. Items may also be recalled at any time. Do not remove the wrapper from the front of item.

Items may be returned via the returns chute at any Campus Library.

Depending on the policies of the owning library, some items may only be viewed on library premises and may not be borrowed.
